MacTraining Enterprises' FileMaker Pro

This is a three day session

We all use databases; who doesn't have an address book? FileMaker Pro lets us take all those important lists we try to maintain, and computerize them. Not only are they easier to maintain in electronic form, they are much more versatile. Eliminate one source of clutter and see how efficient you can be!

This three day class will cover the use of FileMaker Pro through the entire process of planning, developing and using a flat file and relational database system.

Topics include creating a database from scratch, data entry, importing records, creating different report formats including mailing labels, finding a specific set of records, sorting the data, and using the lookup feature. Additional topics include repeating fields, scripting basics, and creating summary reports.
We'll learn various data entry options, including importing records, creating custom and specialized lists; create reports that summarize just the information you need; define relationships between multiple files and design a relational database system; key fields; learn the three types of relationships and when to use them, and create a link file to resolve a many to many relationship, and more....

The relational database system section of the class builds on the techniques above and includes understanding key fields and how they work in FileMaker, lookups (a review), additional reporting considerations, summary fields and subsummary reports, and the development of a simple customer invoicing system to ensure understanding of relational database systems.
Converting files from a flat file into a relational system, more indepth summary reports, and some specialized calculations will be covered during the third day as well as additional calculations, use of global fields, and nested sub-summaries....

Each student in the two day session receives a workbook covering the topics outlined below.
