Basics for the Non-Technical User
(single day hands-on class)
The goal of
this class is to provice non-technical persons with basic
knowledge about the three major programs used in the
publishing industry. Afer this session participants will be
able to communicate more efficiently with designers,
suppliers, and clients about the print process.
This is a
hands-on course. It is geared toward production managers,
account representatives, and administrative assistants who
interact with graphic designers, film houses, printers, and
clients about the status and potential problem areas of
their print job.
The class
is divided into four sections:

publishing terminology and discussion of the best use of
each program
-
InDesign output considerations
- Adobe
Illustrator file formats and uses
- Adobe
Photoshop modes, file formats and uses
In
addition, the participants in theis session will learn whar
"pre-flighting" is, the differences between PostScript
and TrueType fonts, the problems when fonts are used
improperly, and the differences between a PostScript
graphic, vector graphic, and bit-mapped graphic.
This is a
valuable class for anyone in the print or design industry
who is not directly responsible for creating artwork, but
who needs to communicate intelligently with others regarding
projects.
Prerequisites:
Keyboarding skills, Macintosh Introduction or 20 hours of
Macintosh experience including file and disk copy techniques
and an understanding of the Macintosh Clipboard and
Scrapbook. It will benefit the learner, and other members of
the class, if the participant has word processing and some
skills in the use of a drawing program.

Prerequisite:
You need a working knowledge of your computer and it's
operating system, including use of the mouse, standard
menus, and commands; as well as how to open, save, and close
files.
